About 1926
A legacy of cultivating relationships through honesty and integrity.
Honesty and integrity, two attributes which perfectly describe Saviour Borg. Born to humble beginnings in 1926 in Hamrun Malta, he is commonly known as ‘Is-Sur Sunny’.
After the war, when peace reigned once again, Sunny left the shores of his beloved country to join the merchant navy, where he travelled the world to seek his fortune. Indeed it was hard to find a place on the globe he had not visited and wasn’t inspired by.

02 HISTORY
1926 Hotel & Spa, the beginning
1926
Savour Borg, known as Sunny Borg was born in 1926 in Hamrun. He left the country after the war to join the merchant navy on a quest for a brighter future.
“People like Sunny Borg do not grow on trees”
“He was a self-made entrepreneurial giant”
(Times of Malta January 2nd 2016)
1964
Sunny established a manufacturing company called ‘Bortex’ as a joint venture. The name is an anagram of the words Borg and textile. The venture went from strength to strength as a high-quality manufacturer of men’s clothing, supplying the finest retail brands on the European market place. Later on, the Borg family has also started the brand Gagliardi.
1975
Sunny diversified the business into the hospitality market with the lease of several hotels in prime locations. Leasing no longer proved to be sufficient when his love towards the industry grew, fuelling his decision to create a hotel chain and buy his first establishment in Sliema. Sunny’s never-ending devotion formulated the basis his legacy has been built on today.
1990
Throughout his career, he held a number of chairmanships in state owned companies including those of Middle Sea insurance, the Malta Development Corporation and the National Tourism Organisation of Malta. He often gave various prime ministers advice where he was renowned for speaking his mind. Sunny accepted no remuneration for any of these posts, viewing his contribution as a duty to his country.
He was made a member of the National Order of merit in 1996

Today
Today, Sunny is still involved in this Hotel which we hope is a fitting tribute to his life, not only spiritually but in a more enigmatic way. Through the interior as well as eclectic decor we aim to capture Sunny’s personality and individual character in a very subtle way.
